In late September, I was with GoalWin team in Ibiza. We were a total of seven players from the team on this trip.
We arrived on Wednesday night and the tournament itself (Day 1b) was about to start on Thursday at the Casino de Ibiza. There were a total of 426 participants which mostly consisted of Spaniards, but also many Germans, Frenchmen, Italians, etc. In general, it was a good value since there were some obvious bad players at every table.
I ended up at the same table as my team manager Albert Rolander unfortunately, but otherwise it was not exactly any aspiring poker stars at the table even if it wasn't any apparent "fish" either. The tournament started quietly for me and I had a medium attack until it was time to change tables for the last two levels for the day. On the new table, there were many talented players with big stacks and I decided quickly to play cautiously here and simply wait out the day and play more active on the new table on day 2. I ended day one with about 15k when the average was around 35k, which was not quite what I had hoped for but at least I was still in it win a chance to win.
Indeed, my table on day 2 was much easier than on my last table for day 1. I managed to double with 99 vs. A7o all in pre and then it was a relatively quiet trip the rest of the day although I annoyingly enough lost some pots at the end of the day again and came in to day 3 as relatively shortstacked another time. At this point we were in the money with 50 players left and I was down in chip position 43.
As the prize structure was flat at the bottom (typical PokerStars structure) and top heavy, my tactic for the day was to play aggressive and do everything possible to build a big stack even if it meant taking some more chances. Now the game for many players, including myself, was all-in or fold poker. I was very card dead at this point and was forced to push with bad hands for about two hours just to maintain my stack. The first time I got called I had pushed with A7o from the cutoff, but unfortunately the button wakes up with AK and I busted. :(
I finished at place 36, which paid 1.860 euro. I was very happy with my game during the tournament but not at all with the result. It is at the top the fine money is and although I was ITM, it's not the type of prize money that I was aiming for.
Otherwise, we were of course going out there as well and looked at what Ibiza had to offer. In general, I was not particularly attracted to the city of Ibiza (Eivissa). It was a dull town with a pretty bad selection of restaurants. Ibiza had a lot to offer when it came to nightlife though and we at Goalwin team had a very nice trip and I can only thank everyone for some good company.
