A side event, a sleeping chipleader and some cashgame

Side Event 1 - €110 freezeout

After spending the Sunday swimming and sunbathing it was time for the first side event, a €110 freezeout. I ended up at the same starting table as the talented Goalwin player Christer Lagerström but beyond that it was not a particularly tough table. Unfortunately, I had one of those days that happens to all poker players sometimes. I was not playing well and got far too passive. The structure of the tournament was really bad anyway and I survived until we were about 30 players (out of 60 starting) left when I shortstacked went all-in with some trashy hand and Viktor Morgårds made a "fish call" with AQ. Anyway, he took well care of the chips and eventually shared the win (in a 7-way split), together with players such as Christer Lagerström.

Side Event 2 - €115 satellite to Main Event

On Monday it was time for a satellite (€115) for the Main Event. There was about 70 players starting and big schools of fish everywhere. Unfortunately, the structure was lousy yet again so even if the players were bad, it was still difficult to get a huge advantage. When we were 30 players left in the tournament a funny thing happened. The tournament's chip leader fell asleep in the middle of a pot after he reraised on the flop.

He then went on sleeping for about 40 minutes and when he woke up again it's 13 people left and he is shortstacked and goes all-in straight away. Well, there are different ways to play as an early chipleader. He decided to take a nap!

My own game worked fine today and now it was suddenly a lot of fun playing poker. Unfortunately I semi-bubbled in 10th place with 8 ITM, but it was still a good feeling since the side events always came in second place and it was more important that the game worked well for the upcoming Main Event.

Side Event 3 - €250 freezeout

The last side event I played was on Tuesday, and it was a €250 event. The structure was slightly better here although it became more and more all-in poker the further into the tournament we came. My game continued to work better and better and I managed to build a stack through a lot of 3-bets, floats, etc. After losing a few pots in a row I was however shortstacked again when we were 17 people left. Then a funny thing happens. I still have a stack big enough to make opponents fold if I push, so I go all-in when it's folded to me on the button with KTo. A girl that I have not seen play a hand so far then decides to go insta all-in from the SB without thinking. In the BB is Brane Stupar grumbling but eventually forced to fold alhough he wanted to play his hand. I obviously think that I'm up against the nuts and have to come up with a suckout. She then turns up Q7o and I win the pot with K high. Brane apparently had A10, which I thought was a bit fun. :-)

Unfortunately I busted out soon anyway, a few hands later, and have actually managed to forgot how but I guess it was not through a bad beat because then I'd probably have remembered it. So close to the money again, it's becoming a bad habit! :-)

Cash game - €200 profit

Unfortunately I did not get the chance to play a lot of cash games during the week. This was due to a combination of that the value didn't seem to be that good and that I went far in the tournaments which did not allow me to play cash games. Moreover, there was much more fun to do down here other than poker. There were a total of three cash game sessions and the end result was €200 in profit which was not much to write home about.

Johan Lendenius

I have my background in the economy sector where I worked several years as a management consultant and controller before I decided to pursue a career as a full time professional poker player in 2005. After that the rakeback company has gradually evolved as a business on the side.

The most important things in my life are my wife, my family and friends and to do well in whatever I'm occupied with for the moment. I see myself as a bit like a 'bon vivant' who does not worry about what happens tomorrow. Someone who loves traveling and good food.

These days I'm mainly playing Texas NL cash games online. When I'm playing live it's usually Texas NL cash games as well, but I also like to play live tournaments. I am
since March 2011 a member of Goalwin's professional poker team.

I'm going to write about my experiences from both live and online poker and my everyday life. You can find previous blog entries from me at:
